I lost about 15-20 pounds last year and had put about half of that back on. I get frustrated losing weight because when I lose a couple pounds I think, oh good -- and then I don’t watch what I am eating and gain those pounds right back. I am also supposed to be watching what I eat and exercising to help lower my cholesterol. I was going up 11 flights of steps every day at work knowing that I would never find the time to add an exercise routine into my schedule, and those steps were getting very boring. My doctor told me it wasn’t getting my heart rate up for a long enough period of time, not to mention how exhausting it was versus walking, etc.
My husband had started exercising at Workout Express, which is very convenient to our home, and kept saying how much he liked it. He wondered if I wanted to go and try it with him. I have not had exercise as any kind of regimen my entire life and have never found the time to make exercise a part of my routine, but decided to go try it for the 3 week trial period to see what it was all about in support of my husband.
Because I started on the trial program where I needed to be committed to exercise at least 3 times a week, I was able to adjust to having exercise as a part of my schedule. Believe it or not, I even was thinking I would like to go more than 3 times a week! The machines are easy to use and not intimidating. The clientele is just like me, and not all skinny teens with built up muscles there to impress the opposite sex, which made me feel more comfortable. The Staff is very good at instructing without making you feel stupid and they make you feel welcome every time you go. (Especially with me never having been on any of the machines before and not knowing how they are supposed to be used or what they do for you.)
After the first week of exercising, I thought I could see a difference in my waist but I thought I was probably imagining it. My goal was to try to lose the extra “handle” around my waist so my clothes would fit better. Believe it or not, I actually have a waist now.
I go to a chiropractor on a regular basis and see a CMT. After about 3 weeks of working out, my CMT told me she could see a remarkable difference in how toned by legs had already gotten. At about 4-6 weeks I had lost about an inch around my waist and an inch and one-half around my hips. I can wear clothes that I wore when I weighed 10 lbs less than I do right now. My body fat is decreasing on a regular basis. My weight hasn’t started dropping off much yet, but my fat is now turning to muscle. Someone commented to me today that I sure don’t look like a grandmother! How awesome is that!
All I know is that if I can take 30 minutes out of my day just 3 times a week to do such easy exercise, I know it is possible for anyone. If you stay committed, you definitely will see results, and remember if you exercise even more than the 3 times a week you will get even faster/better results. I feel good when I exercise just to know I am doing something for myself that is making me healthier. My next goal is to lose 10 pounds. Just think how much healthier I will be and how much better I will look in the next 3-4 months! …And the next time my doctor asks me if I do any kind of exercise, I can finally say, Yes! |
